 Gambling is defined as risking something of value, usually money, on the outcome of an event decided at least partially by chance.  This Course provides participants with a brief introduction to pathological gambling, gambling disorder, and problem gambling. Participants will learn about pathological gambling, gambling disorder and problem gambling. Additionally, Participants will consider the prevalence of gambling problems and who typically experiences gambling problems.  Also, Participants will explore the links between gambling problems, other behavioral health conditions and suicidality.  Next, Participants will review the tools used for screening, assessing and diagnosing gambling problems.  Finally, Participants will conclude by learning about the various treatment strategies found to be useful in treating gambling problems.

  

Course Objectives:

  • To be familiar with pathological gambling, gambling disorder and problem gambling
  • To comprehend the prevalence of gambling problems
  • To be aware of who typically experiences problems with gambling
  • To consider links between gambling problems and other behavioral health conditions
  • To identify how gambling problems are associated with suicidality
  • To explore the tools used for screening, assessing and diagnosing gambling problems
  • To identify the various treatment strategies found to be useful in treating clients with gambling problems
