Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) is brain disorder that affects more than 1 million Americans. LBD is associated with abnormal deposits of a protein called alpha-synuclein in the brain. These deposits, called Lewy bodies, can lead to problems with thinking, movement, behavior and mood.
Course Objectives:
- To be familiar with LBD basics
- To comprehend the two types of LBD: dementia with Lewy bodies and Parkinson’s disease dementia
- To be aware of LBD causes and risk factors
- To consider primary and common symptoms of both dementia with Lewy bodies and Parkinson’s disease dementia
- To explore LBD diagnosis, treatment and management
- To be familiar with important advice for people living with LBD
- To understand the role and responsibilities of LBD caregivers
- To consider predicted areas of LBD research
