Marchman Act Course

Marchman Act Course 1 CE/1 NBCC Hour

Registration Requirements: To register for this course, you will be asked to create an account on our website using your name and email address.  Once you have created an account, you will be asked to review and agree to terms and conditions, and then be prompted to make a payment through PayPal. After your payment has processed, you will receive an email with login instructions.  Once you login, you will be asked to create a profile with your name, address, email, phone number, and professional license number.  If you do not have a professional license number, you may enter your driver's license or state identification number.  You must pass this course with a minimum of 70% correct and complete a course evaluation. 

      Chapter 397 of the Florida Statutes is known as the "Hal S. Marchman Alcohol and Other Drug Services Act of 1993". It provides for the involuntary or voluntary assessment and stabilization of a person allegedly abusing substances, like drugs or alcohol, and provides for treatment of substance abuse. A Marchman Act is a means of providing an individual in need of substance abuse services with emergency services and temporary detention for substance abuse evaluation and treatment when required, either on a voluntary or involuntary basis.

    Mental Health, Social Work, and other professionals will learn about the Marchman Act, including but not limited to: Court Involved Services, Petitions for Involuntary Substance Abuse Assessments and Stabilizations, Treatment, Extension of Treatment, and Affidavits in Support of a Rule to Show Cause.  This course will cover both legal and professional responsibilities for those that practice in the mental health, legal, and therapeutic fields.

Course Objectives:

1. Introduction to Marchment Act and substance abuse treatment

2. To review  Florida Chapter 397: Court Involved Assessments and Treatment

3. To describe how to file Petitions for Assessment and Stabilization, Treatment, and Extension of Treatment

4. Participants will learn about Contempt via "Rule to Show Cause"

5. Participants will learn about confidentiality and frequently asked questions
