Course Description     

This course explains how race, ethnicity, and culture influence conceptions of death and dying, death rituals or ceremonies, bereavement and anguish associated with death.  Advance directives and palliative care are also explicated. Furthermore, effective approaches for interventions and services will be presented using both culturally relevant and ethical frames of reference.

Objectives include:

To aid mental health professionals and social workers alike in their endeavor to serve their clients when dealing with death and dying. The participants will become familiar with a variety of beliefs about death related to ethnic and cultural orientations. The participants will be better equipped to to serve a diverse clientele who are seeking counseling or social work related to death and dying
