Reporting Child Abuse in Florida 2 CE 2 CE and 2 NBCC approved clock hours

Course Description:  Social Workers, Therapist, Mental Health Counselors and other professionals will learn about Mandatory Reporting, Child Dependency (governed by Chapter 39 of the Florida Statutes), how to make an abuse report, what happens after an abuse call is received by the hotline, child protective investigations, definitions of abuse and neglect, the court process from the beginning at Shelter Hearings to Final Judgment at Termination of Parental Rights.  This class will cover both legal and professional responsibilities for those that practice in the mental health and therapeutic fields.

 

Objectives Include:

  •  Introduction to Florida Abuse Hotline, Child Protective Investigations and the Dependency Courts
  • To review Florida Statute Chapter 39 – Related to abused, abandoned and neglected children
  • To learn the legal definitions of child abuse, a professional’s responsibility to report child abuse, and what happens after a call is received
  • To understand the legal process in a Chapter 39 involved in a child abuse case
